    If Preview recognizes a shape you draw it will choose that instead. There is also a Loupe tool which you can use to magnify an area of your image, just drag the green handle to decrease or the blue handle to increase magnification.

  • Shape Tools: You can add rectangles, stars, and other shapes.
  • Press delete to make this part of the image transparent or tap Command+C to copy your selection, making it available in Clipboard.   • Text Selection: When working with a PDF a text selection tool sits at the far left.
  • We can even change the fonts and colors but don’t have time to explain that. Choose one style by clicking on it, then when your mouse cursor is over the image again you’ll see the cross-hairs + sign.     Restart your Preview and you should find the annotate button is now available to draw and write notes on most image file formats. Move your mouse cursor over the Annotate button ( red circle above ) and click/drag that button to top right of the ‘Slideshow’ button landing area. How ? Click VIEW then click CUSTOMIZE TOOLBAR. Most of them are available in the Tools menu, but you can also toggle the Edit Toolbar on and off by clicking the pen icon in Preview’s main toolbar. The menu option was always gray until i found the trick: add an Annotation button to the Preview toolbar. Preview has some pretty great image editing tools, but first you need to get at them.
